Is it just me, or do people go out of their way to find reasons to feel offended? I'm pretty sure that most if not all of the people who took exception to my use of this shape to make an innocent toy have had no first hand experience with the persecution they think it represents.
Where does it stop? Nazi has a "Z" in it, so maybe we shouldn't use that letter? Or the lightning bolts in the "SS" insignia - change those high voltage warning signs?

Very unrelated, but next, I talk a bit about making money from woodworking, but kind of messed that up a bit and didn't mention the stuff I wanted to. So I wrote a blog entry that goes over it in more detail, and you can read that here:

Laurence says:

IRON CROSS , STAR Of DAVID, it's all about perspective , like both . Shine on !!!

Oh Asis says:

There's a certain number of fuckwits in the world and we ain't part of that group.
Hell, even the swastika was known as a good luck symbol in some societies a few hundred years ago. I think the Dutch were one.

John S says:

Used to make furniture out of Wood Steel and glass. Then did construction for a long time and back to furniture. Furniture was my least lucrative job. You have to be able to get thousands for your pieces or it ain't worth it.

1zanglang says:

I invite the idiots who think this cross is a nazi symbol, to look at any of nowadays German air force aircraft and see it as the Cross of Brandenburg painted on the fuselage. This cross is much older than any of the German National Socialist Party symbols, from nor before, neither during Hitler dictatorship. But today, any illiterate who has ”brushed” his education in history at the suburb street corner, is convinced that he is entitled to produce idiotic comments. So, John, let them bark. They bark at the moon…

Jerry Stark says:

Craft-based, experimental semiotics — with attitude. Keep it up!!! 🙂

Jerry Stark says:

Love the shirt!

SauronsEye says:

The offence is due to the association with the Nazi's and when the Iron Cross was awarded and movies.

When I saw the video I considered it initially as baiting of your audience then I realised your surname and then I ignored your video in the thought the Iron Cross may not be a controversial for those of German extraction.

Anyway….you might find it interesting reading, this news article about the Rebels motor cycle club and a recent court case a couple of their members were involved in….Not that they mention the Iron Cross in the report.

I only add this here because you said…."Motor cycle clubs"

threadsofmadness says:

i think the low view count is more related to the rapid decline in popularity of fidget spinners rather than the shape used. i have kids who fell for the fidget spinner trend but now we have a drawer of fidget spinners that never gets opened. i just think fidget spinners have used up their 15 minutes of fame and the public is looking for a new useless gadget to waste money on.

Magnus Johansson says:

When I saw that stone being cut up, my first thought was that it was hard on the tools, not the shape.
The pentagram was used by Pythagoras.
In sweden we have an old logotype for the company ASEA which is an swastica with one letter in each square. They where founded 1883.
If you look for the devil, you will se him everywhere.

seasonedtoker says:

fuck it, are we really discussing iron crosses on a woodworking channel? hello, people? show some respect for the guy and stop posting stupid comments reflecting your frustration with the world.

Paul Wilson says:

People who get offended or usually looking to be offended.

Gofeball Mcsullivan says:

I havent even watched the video yet. But this is all im going to say. The Iron Cross predates the Nazis. It was actually originally used in the 1800's by the Prussians, it was merely adopted by the Nazis (mainly for medals and such).

Rexczi Cex says:

Offensive? I call that awesome.

Rexczi Cex says:

20k views is not your fault. Its youtubes. Their algorytm is still on drugs. I promise, i watch almost all your videos.. and other woodmakers videos, but yours didnt show up.

4x4 Moses says:

These day, everyone seems to be easily offended. Don't lose sleep over the snowflakes.

moenchii aus Thüringen says:

Where can I buy this shirt?

blast says:

If there was/is no intention to connect the shape with the Nazi era, why name it "Iron Cross" instead of just "Cross fidget spinner"? If the intention was on purpose just for fun (or just to see what happens after the other fidget spinner upside down shape?), I see no point in even commenting on the low views it had as a result. You could have named it differently, even shape it differently.

JM P says:

Awesome video. For your next one I suggest an object in the shape of swastika, with an additional follow up video where you educate us that swastika is also used in Hinduism and Buddhism. Stirring things up in such a way will surely have a positive net effect on your channel's popularity, number of subscribers, and your youtube revenue.

The No Life Gamer says:

I didn't really se any back lash in the comments at least

Peter Collin says:

As a fan of Rush, I am offended that you oriented the star the wrong way.
